Matthew Gordon with Johnny Marr

Hello

I’m Matthew — a journalism graduate with a big curiosity for stories, culture, and the people behind them.

I’m particularly drawn to music, sport, and politics, and I enjoy digging into the ideas, conversations, and moments that shape them. Whether I’m writing a feature, a review, or a longer-form piece, I’m always aiming to create work that feels thoughtful, engaging, and genuinely connected to its audience.

Alongside my writing, I’m a self-taught guitarist, songwriter, and music producer, with original work that’s reached over 800,000 views on YouTube (@maccabeats4228). Music plays a huge role in how I think and create — from writing reviews and features in my free time, to regularly attending gigs and steadily expanding a (slightly obsessive) record collection.

I also have a strong interest in football and sports media, particularly Scottish and UK football. I follow the way sport is covered just as closely as the sport itself, and I’m fascinated by how storytelling, broadcasting, and analysis shape the modern game.

More broadly, I’m passionate about Scottish culture, literature, and history, as well as UK and Scottish politics and current affairs. I stay informed through a mix of established journalism and digital media, and I’m always keen to explore how political and cultural stories are told — and how they can be told better.

I’m now looking for an opportunity to begin my career in writing, editing, journalism, or communications, where I can build on my academic training, creative work, and real-world experience working with people in fast-paced environments. This site is a home for my writing, ideas, and projects — and a snapshot of the kind of work I’d love to do more of.
